The game is set in a distant future, and takes place on a frontier world called The Frontier, where you can explore vast new lands and meet new alien races. Now, the dev team is launching its first Kickstarter campaign to help fund the game’s development, and has just released a trailer that the team hopes everyone will enjoy.
The Starborne Frontiers team is no stranger to sci-fi MMORPGs, having worked on two successful past titles with their previous company, but the Starborne Frontiers team is something different entirely. The Frontiers team has achieved fame in the MMORPG community through their past work on titles such as Starbound, Starbound Galaxy, and Starbound Galaxy 2, and now they have been granted the tools to create their very own sci-fi MMORPG in Starborne Frontiers, the first of its kind. As a result, the Starborne Frontiers community is planning for big things.
Starborne Frontiers is an upcoming sci-fi MMORPG that is still in development, but it recently announced a pre-alpha test. It has some similarities with Starborne but it does have some differences.
MMO players know Starborne: Sovereign Space as space MMORTS, but if you wanted something closer to MMORPGs, I have good news for you, because Icelandic indie developer Solid Clouds has just announced a new game in the same universe that falls into the pure MMORPG category. This is Starborne: Frontiers, and the studio calls it a radical expansion of its established space world.
In Frontiers, players must navigate their way through a complex web of alliances and conflicts between the stars, and get the chance to explore a vast and dizzying universe in ways that will surprise and delight them. Frontiers departs from the real-time empire-building format of Sovereign Space and presents players with an entirely different challenge as they travel to the far reaches of civilized space. As they grow, they can build personal bases, discover the secrets of the universe, and even team up with other commanders to face the greatest dangers with PvP and PvE elements. Along the way, they encounter more than a dozen factions with their own unique histories and philosophies that can help or hinder players in their quest to take their place as the most powerful force on the front lines.
If you think Iceland and sci-fi MMOs go hand in hand, you’re in for a surprise, because one of the founders of Solid Clouds is Sigurdur Arnljotsson, who you may know as the co-founder of CCP Games and the first CEO of EVE Online .
