Over the past year, KSP has seen its player count skyrocket, and so much of that growth can be attributed to the game’s extensive modding community. Mods have been a big part of KSP since the game’s early days, and have grown to become one of the game’s most interesting facets. Kerbal Space Program, the detailed and addictive space flight simulator created by indie game developer Squad, has reached its 10th birthday today. While the milestone marks a decade of space building, it also serves as a time to reflect on the future of the game. Squad is in the process of developing the next major update, which will move the game into the year 2024 and introduce new community-requested features while retaining the game’s core principles. The update is slated for release in the first half of 2019, and will be free to all players.

But before that happens, the team is releasing the latest update to KSP, called 1.12 On Final Approach.

Not only are we filling this free update with a huge amount of new content, player requests and all sorts of bug fixes, but it’s also our way of thanking all the members of our community for supporting us and making our dreams come true.
Here’s a look at what the Final Approach update will entail:
- New application maneuver tool for making interbody transfer maneuver knots.
- A new version of the slim suit
- New details: Fireworks and solar cell machine
- Alarm clock, so the player can follow important events.
- New easter eggs are discovered in the solar system
- And more!
Private Division, Squad and BlitWorks also announced today that Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition and Kerbal Space Program 2 will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with the Enhanced Edition coming later this fall.
