Viking Cruises Opens Up Malta Cruises For U.S. Guests

Viking Cruises is expanding its presence in the Mediterranean seas, announcing a new cruise schedule for Americans, which will include two new itineraries: a 10-day roundtrip journey to Malta with a stop in Sicily and a 13-day trip around the Ionian Sea with a stop in Aegina, Greece.

Viking Cruises is expanding on its 2018 cruise schedule and is now offering daily cruises to the beautiful island of Malta. The new sailings, which will also include a stop in Istanbul, will debut in spring 2019.

Viking Cruises is showing the cruise world that it is serious about returning to European cruises. The cruise line has entered into a new partnership with Lufthansa to make it easy for American customers to travel to Europe.

As Cruise Hive reported earlier this week, the cruise line will launch several ships in Iceland, the UK and the Mediterranean. However, it is the Mediterranean cruises that the cruise line wants to make available to its regular customers in the US.

Return to the Mediterranean Sea

Viking will send three ships on an 11-day Mediterranean voyage from Valletta, Malta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during the summer and early fall of 2024. Viking Star, Viking Sea and the company’s newest ship, Viking Venus, will depart from one of Europe’s most beautiful ports. As a bonus, the Maltese government has eased entry restrictions on international travelers, including visitors from the United States.

To this end, the cruise line has announced an exclusive partnership with German airline Lufthansa, which will operate exclusive non-stop flights between Newark Liberty International Airport and Malta for Viking customers.
